Real time...Right now!

In honor of savoring every moment, I have a dilemma I would like to share with you...
quickly, I might add,
since I have twenty women coming to my home in just a few hours.
This is the annual Christmas party that I host for the ladies in my Classical Conversations home school group. And I canceled it before Christmas.
That's right...two days before the party...
and rescheduled it - for tonight - Tuesday.
Best decision I ever did make...that week. :)
So here in lies the problem....
Yes siree!
Nothing in the Deep South says "Welcome to my feathered nest," more than a dryer finding residence on the front porch (or the side in our case).
You see old faithful went out on the eve of the 25th...
and the new one just found its rightful place, but the old one has yet to find its home.
And it's too heavy for my boys and me to move.
I'm strong, but not that strong.
It's a race against the clock to see if my hubby gets home in time.
For the sake of balancing this bedlam with some true beauty, how about I put a table runner across it, light some beautiful candles and call it a night?
Come on decorating gurus...what should I do?
A little cloche? Maybe some topiaries?
Ah....you gotta love it!
Off to make some yummy hors d'oeuvres and finish cleaning!
I am so glad these women love me...in spite of myself. :)

*edited to add...you must read the comments - they are much better than my post.
Oh, this could be fun. Maybe I will just tell my hubby it's ok to be late.

You are so cute! Old things seem to breakdown just at the right/wrong time don't they?
I think old faithful dryer looks beautiful with the beauty of the woods surrounding it:) Add some lights, a sign about 'dry humor' and offer it as a door prize:)
Your friends are coming to see you and enjoy some up lifting conversation... this just might add to it as 'normal' life!

haha sounds like a nice decorative piece for your patio!! lol

Either leave it alone completely by not EVEN apologizing for it
OR stick a Christmas tree coming out of the open lid....maybe hand paint across the front...."though your sins be a scarlet, they'll be washed whitter than snow."

The comments posted are fun! :o)

Oh, yes, I love the tree inside idea!

Maybe you should wrap it light a giant present. I swear - that is something that would happen to me.

I love the door prize and Christmas tree ideas! Your friends won't mind it being there. They are coming to visit you. :)

Jen you are too much! I vote for the tree inside it! Enjoy your after Christmas party!

I thought the Adirondack chairs in front of it looked quaint, like a little conversation area with the dryer as the focal point.

Whatever you decide, your friends are going to come in with smiles on their faces!

Hee-hee, Jen! that's too funny, but you know your friends won't even look at it too long, they will be happy to hang out together in your house enjoying the fun & food. You could put a BIG tablecloth on it!

That is so funny! I hope you have a great time at your party! I think the dryer will definitely be a conversation piece.

Jen that is too funny! And I really want to know what your funny questions are for Lysa! :)

Let us know what you decided with the dryer! :)

I thought things like this could only happen to me. I like the door prize comment.

Definitely wrap it as a giant gift.

okay, flank it on either side with the chairs. Do the table runner and candles that you already suggested AND lower the flap, set a couple of coasters on it and fill the inside with twinkly lights. I would sit there.

Ohhhh how funny! OK being something of a self proclaimed expert on white trash redneck porch decorating let me tell you what you need to do to fix this up right! In order to pull off the whole white trash redneck look you have to put a broken tv on top of it! With the chairs facing it, makes total sense, lol, it's your "outdoor media room" LOL
Hope your party was a great success!

Open the door & it could be a planter. You could start a new recycling trend.
Have a great New Year's Eve.

Well, you could always put ice in it and serve cold beverages out of it. Of course, I would also wrap lights and tinsel around the outside to make it "festive". Wow! I think I would do that and post a child nearby just to capture the people's expressions when they arrived!

Sounds like something that would happen to me also! Too funny.

Do you have some bar stools? Throw a cloth over it and make it a bar!

I know your shin dig already happened, but you could put a grill cover on top of it and just pass it off as a grill. ;)

Oh, I'm too late to make suggestions, but I love the idea of ice in it for a beverage center AND wrapping it with Christmas paper and a big bow around it. What creative readers you have. laurie

This was so funny! I love Kitty Scrapps' idea of making it an outdoor media center! :-)

So... what did you do with it???

*Just Jen* said...

I say that you drape a Christmas table cloth over it and set champagne glasses on top for everyone to have on their way in the door! They'll never know what it is! LOL
