When spray paint and brass meet....

Posted at Kari and Kijsa's Trash to Treasure party

In continuation of my mad spray painting rampage, I give you some more of what I did when "I shopped my house."
Again, this was done in a few mere minutes, and the total cost was $2 (including the brass pieces which were originally from a yard sale.) Imagine what I could do with $10...hee hee.

I have moved past the brass stage in my home decor,
and I literally had these items in a box marked Good Will.
Since I didn't take "before" pictures....AHHH...what was I thinking,
just know that these candlesticks and frames were green - yes, booger green, and should have been disposed of long ago.
BUT, I am so glad that I am a procrastinator...just for this instant.
The candlesticks look brand new, and I spray painted ten more....just because I could....and I had lots of spray paint.
Now, the last few thrift stores that I have gone into, I have looked for ugly candlesticks marked at $.25 - $.50 just to paint them a myriad of colors.
*edited to add...I have a rule with the quick spray paint projects..no sanding allowed.
I just took a regular old $1 bottle and went to it. I was shocked at how well it turned out. I may have used the indoor/outdoor kind, but it's already been thrown away,
so I couldn't double check.
So then I went on to this fake, shiny, chunky brass candle holder....

Yes, looks like new.....loving it....
And we all have some of these old brass frames, right?
Yes, this was my hubby and I's first Christmas, and I do believe that picture has been in this frame since then. Well, look what happens....

Yes, for you observant ladies...it's not the same frame, but it is the same exact type of frame (remember, I forgot to take the "before" pictures?)

When I was shopping my house, I decided to redo my mantel...all in whites....and there was one spot where I couldn't find just the right thing, so I whipped out the paint and made this into the perfectly "right" thing. :)
Instant gratification.

(I know I am tired when I just typed a brand new word....
and it sounds correct...
Satisfaction + gratification = gratifaction, right?)

This week, I will show you my whole new white thrifty mantel redo...such fun knowing that I love it and it was done with all yard sale finds. :)
Now off to bed.
I have been gone today, Sunday, from 7:30am to nearly 9:00pm without a jaunt home, and I bushed.

Good night sweet friends, and sweet dreams thinking of all the new yard sale finds that are right around the corner. It's almost spring time...are you making a list of your "must finds?"

I LOVE spray paint-and my glue gun! I can't use spray paint right now-too cold. So I have a stash of stuff to spray paint come spring. I did use my glue gun, though...
Can't wait to see how you put it all together!!

Okay - question. Remember this falls under the 'the only dumb question is the one you don't ask'.

Keep that in mind... okay?

Um, do you have to sand or prime them? It seems like paint and metal would mix. How do you get it to stay?

And where do you spray? Outside?

I'm a spray paint wanna be. You, Kimba and Nester are killin' me with all your craftiness.

I just love using spray paint on makeovers. My next 'project' involves glue...if I can just find where I put it! I love your beautiful 'new' frames and candle holders. Can't wait to see the mantel.

You know I love that spray paint too!! I love making those transformations myself. So glad we have those kindred spirit friends in bloggy land. xoxo

Those look great, Jen! Rhoda has also gotten me hooked on black spray paint lately. We are re-doing our powder room, and I have been spraying black all weekend. I also found some of the "Rub&Buff" stuff Rhoda talked about (ACMoore) and rubbed it on the black to make it look a pretty coppery color. Pretty! Maybe our room will actually match this time!?

I'm waiting for it to warm up, I have a pile of stuff waiting to be reincarnated as something "white semi-gloss" I hadn't thought of candlesticks though, I'll have to add that to my list (which as of now includes a stool, a shelf, and some frames) Can't wait to see your new mantle-scape. I just redid mine with some not-so-thrifty items from hobby lobby and I'm still not satisfied :(

So timely, as a few days ago I picked up some brass candlesticks at a thrift store to spray paint!
I think I'm doing mine white, and gluing white plates on top to make small cake stands! Will blog those and now I will think to take 'before' photos : )

What I love about spray paint is in 2 minutes you've got the look you want. I sprayed the barn stars in my guest room yesterday and I love them, also every framed on the wall...I can't imagine how hidious the room would look if it weren't for spray paint.

I just spray painted my first frame about a month ago. It wasn't as easy as I thought. I had some drips and such. Guess I need more practice! Candle sticks huh... :)

Oooh love the new blog look Jen! I'm glad to see someone else who has a passion for ridding the world of all things brass, ha ha! Honestly I held my breath the first time I painted on brass. I think since my mom made such a big deal when I was little about how nice brass things look. But I got over that and have been on a rampage ever since. Way to go, your projects look great. Can't wait to see the mantel!
