One year we gave our son Joseph chicks for Easter. Yes, they were cute -- and the smell made me think I had the pregs, it was that sickening!!

How funny, we just went to the feed store and my children also decided we must have chickens...they even calculated how much many they had to put into the chicken fund. Thank goodness, for now the chickens are still at the store. I think my Lab would also have a hard time resisting and then we would also have a little bedlam as well!

Oy! Having grown up on a hobby farm, I could never have chicks inside. Disgusting! And I just look at them and see food anyhow.

We always had chickens growing up--my Dad still does, and I remember bringing the chicks home from the feed store and keeping them warm in a box under an old goose-neck lamp in my bedroom until they were pullets and big enough to stay outside. What great memories for your kids! And BOY I have ALWAYS wanted a yellow lab. I vote BEAUTY.
Bedlam. We keep chickens in a backyard coop and our crazy dog LOVES to chase them, pick them up, and carry them around in her mouth. She doesn't kill them but she's obsessed with chasing & carrying them. It's crazy! You'd think this would encourage the birds to NOT fly out of their coop. Nope. Bedlam. Pure bedlam. *Jillbert

Well, they sure are cute, but looks can be deceiving sometimes. I hope everything turned out okay in the end, although I admit, it doesn't look too good in that last picture.

These negative nelly's are a little ridiculous leaving these offensive comments as to "what you are teaching your children" and the safety of the chicks, etc....get a grip, lady! Clearly, Jenn, you are a godly woman, wonderful wife and mother, and a lover of ALL God's creatures...and are doing an EXCELLENT job of teaching your children! The last photo OBVIOUSLY shows a GENTLE family dog with family members near by and no harm done to anyone or animal. Lisa Q, you're ridiculous!!!
I would have responded this way, even after reading your "update" this morning. I liked your post a lot! :) My in-laws live in the countryside and have a lot of chickens and several roosters. They've had to bring some chicks in before too, and their lab adores them! Maybe because I'm used to that sort of thing, the photos didn't phase me one bit. I like the picture of your daughter's hands holding the chick...my little ones like the "baybees" too. :) Cute post!
